This past Sunday-Tuesday, I and four other members of the Kalamazoo Jewish community had the opportunity to study in Chicago with Joey Weisenberg, renowned Jewish musician and community leader, at a retreat called "Song is Prayer."

Weisenberg's mission of the past 20+ years is to transform Jewish life through music. We were able to enjoy the experience of singing in the same room with nearly 100 Jews from across the Midwest. We also discussed Jewish texts, music theory and the practical considerations that have the potential to positively transform synagogue services.
