Tradition and Change Series: Haftarah, Exploring the Triennial Reading

Thursday, November 18 at 7:00 pm at CoM

In 1987 the Conservative Movement approved the division of Torah reading into a three year cycle. Congregation of Moses adopted this style of reading and has made it very successful. There is a parallel question about Haftarot. If a community like CoM is reading Torah on a triennial cycle, should Haftarot follow suit?

In this class we will look at the teshuvah (discussion & answer) which was approved by the Movement. We will discuss the pros and cons, the implications and what a change like this would mean for CoM.

We will not be making any decisions, but rather looking at how Jewish law responds to modernity and how we might view potential change in our daily lives.
